About Michelle Koehn
Hi! I’m Michelle
Who I am
I am a mother, a student, a designer, a teacher, and so many other things. I have a wonderful family, a husband and 2 kids, all who manage to keep my life a beautiful balance between chaos and peace.
I am a person who thinks visually, each new idea brings a flood of images to my mind.
My love of design comes from creating from an idea, turning nothing into something that now has purpose. My inspiration comes from my family.
My goal is to influence people. Life is busy and the influences around us give us new perspectives and can influence choices to better lives. I want to be that influence, that spark that could help someone.
Education journey
I didn’t always know that I wanted to design. By coincidence it was a suggested major, and the only one I didn’t know what it was. Looking into it, I realized that it was all my favourite things combined into one. I started Graphic Design as my major at BYU–Idaho in 2016, a few semesters in, I chose to start a family. I graduated with an associates, and half way through my degree. When the time was right I applied to Weber State University to finish my degree in 2023. I graduated in Dec of 2026.
Some of the classes I learned the most from
:Typography II where I learned about design systems, and how small elements can connect with more than the visual, but also the text, shape and space of a design/product. It was also a good review on in–depth research.
:Junior Design Seminar where I learned about product design, and rebranding. We worked all semester to rebrand a product of our choice. I rebranded and repackaged Always Pads, doing research to be sure that the packaging retained sustainability.
:Senior Seminar is where I learned how to build and promote a brand from scratch, all within a team. We created a pop up art show, and research, branded and promoted the whole thing, from printed posters to Van vinyl.
:BFA Final Class, I learned to embrace my own style, while experimenting with a current organization, Onstage Ogden, and promoting it with their branding, with a personal touch.
Through my education I have learned how to manage multiple projects, (through taking multiple classes) manage my time (by balancing multiple jobs, school and family with homework), and how to prioritize what is important to me, with all the rest of the chaos in my life.
Final Tidbits
Through my life I have gained perspective, and experience through being a part of many different genres of work. I have worked with my hands, with metal, and air compressors, I have worked in healthcare, retail, fast food. I’ve been a guide through ropes courses, and a care taker for horses. I have taught violin, cooking, painting, and worked with computers and Adobe Cloud for years. I grew up with dancing and music and sports, from soccer to swimming. All this diversity gives me a large perspective of what people see, and what they are looking for.
It helps me to learn and understand new ideas and to learn and adapt quickly. I love to learn and will continue to do so for the rest of my life.
I hope that I will get to work with you in the future!
